Even if divers today have very professional devices to monitor their dives (like diving computers and professional depthmeters) a good professional diving watch cannot be missed in the equipment of a good diver.

The minimum technical specification for this category, based on the ISO 6425 regulation are 10 atm water resistance, screw crown, screw push buttons and screw caseback, one way turning bezel and readability from 25 cm. in dark light. ISO rules also define the specifications for pressurized dives like for example the helium valve.

Lorenz 600 Meters Hammerhead complies with all those parameters and is in the top list of professional diving watches to be considered for a purchase.

Extetic Details

The wooden box is very nice, elegant and made of nice quality wood. Immediately is understandable that is a high profile model. See the picture.

The watch is fully made of solid stainless steel 316L, black IP coated. The first impression looking at this Lorenz is of a resistant and high quality timepiece.

Size is quite important as we are speaking of a watch that is 45 mm. diameter, with a thikness of 15 mm. and lug to lug distance of 57 mm..

Registered weight is 220 grams, that could appear too much; however you easily get used to have this watch on your wrist.

One way turnung bezel has 120 clicks mechanism and has a side that allows a good pressure for an easy rotation.

At 12 we find a luminous dot, very helpful in case of lack of visibility to calculate the dive time.

The inner ring (named “rehaut”, the frame that separates the dial from the glass) has minute track from zero to sixty seconds; I personally like the bright orange color, that matches with the color of the indexes and with the filet of the crown.

The dial is in black color, very clean and simple: at 12 we have the Lorenz logo and at 6 we have all the details including the water resistance. At 3 there is a small window with date. All the indexes are made of luminescent material; they are coated with Swiss Superluminova and, as we can see from the pictures, this allows a very clear visualization of the time.

The watch has a screw crown with a small orange filet and is of a very big size, easy to turn even with gloves thanks to its 8 scalpeers.

The screw back shows a polished hammerhead shark on a satin surface to bring evidence to the model’s name.

The bracelet is in full satin stainless steel.

It has a width of 22 mm, a very safe and resistant buckle with a fine adjustment through two small pushers that enable to adjust the bracelet over the diving suit.

Technical Details

The main technical feature of this model is for sure its water resistance up to 600 meters. On the left side of the case body we can find the automatic helium valve, that is necessary for such high depths. I will talk about the valve shortly.

The movement is an automatic Miyota Citizen 8215 with 21 jewels,, date and power reserve of 42 hours, manual winding and two ways charging direction of the rotor.

Helium Valve

In dry places at extreme dephts, like bells or submarines, it is necessary to use an artificial atmosphere made of a mix of oxygen, hydrogen and helium.

Helium is made of extra small particles that are able to penetrate in water resistant places like the case of the watch. While returning to normal ground pressure helium is expanding its volume so that a helium valve is necessary to allow the gas to go out of the watch case.

The valve can be built such as a watch crown or can be like a button hidden in the side of the case (like in our case). The presence of such a device demonstrates that the watch has been studied for a very professional use.

Opinions

I could not skeep from testing this watch underwater. I made it while snorkeling.

This Lorenz is a recommended timepiece to people diving in a professional way. It is very performing and with a very good value for money. 45 mm. are not a problem, it is only a little bit heavy for small wrists. The calibre is very reliable with good performances.
