STATIC GUNMETAL STAINLESS STEEL
Each Static is individually produced and assembled to order just for you. For this reason, it may take up to 15 business days before it is handed over to the courier for shipping.
Crafted in Italy with artisanal care, the Static table clock perfectly embodies the spirit of 20th-century design: pure lines, thoughtful functionality, and a touch of irony. Designed by Richard Sapper, one of the leading figures in industrial design, it was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro in 1960 for this very creation.
The metal case gives the object a solid, tactile, almost sculptural presence. The aluminum dial features hour, minute, and second hands in a clean and highly legible layout, with clear text and numerals fully aligned with Sapper’s functionalist aesthetic. The lens-shaped acrylic crystal reflects his technical vision and integrates elegantly with the overall structure.
Completing the piece is a black Saffiano leather case with a red velvet interior, a refined nod to understated luxury and Italian craftsmanship. The German-made UTS quartz movement ensures exceptional reliability and precision.
Originally designed for Lorenz as an innovative table clock, the Static features an inclined cylindrical case, reminiscent of a bullet, conveying both motion and stability.
One of its most distinctive features is the self-righting base: thanks to a hidden counterweight, if the clock is pushed or tilted, it automatically returns to its upright position. A detail that reveals Sapper’s genius—not only aesthetic, but also a playful expression of functional ingenuity.
Today, the Static is recognized as an icon of industrial design, featured in catalogs and museum collections around the world. The collaboration with Lorenz marked one of Sapper’s first major projects in Italy, launching an extraordinary career.

Richard Sapper
Munich, May 30, 1932 – Milan, December 31, 2015
In the 1950s, while working at the design center of La Rinascente in Milan, the young Richard Sapper received his first independent commissions, including one from the watch company Lorenz. The owner, Tullio Bolletta, contacted him on the recommendation of a secretary at La Rinascente, who suggested he turn to a ‘good designer’ in order to win the Compasso d’Oro. Bolletta proposed that Sapper design a clock using unused mechanisms from military torpedoes.
Sapper accepted the challenge and created the Static, a table clock crafted from a single block of turned steel, featuring an internal weight that allowed it to remain balanced and right itself when moved. The dial was inspired by that of a wartime aircraft instrument clock he had found at a Milan flea market.
The result—innovative in both form and concept—earned Sapper, then only 29, the Compasso d’Oro in 1960, marking the beginning of his brilliant career as a designer.
